In autumn 2012, the European Rural Tourism had a date not to be missed on the agenda: the celebration of the 4th European Congress on Rural Tourism from 7th - 9th of October 2012 in and around the city of Piatra Neamţ in Rumania. Representatives of Rural Tourism Organisations and other professionals from 27 countries in Europe and Asia participated this year.

Under the title "Innovative Tourism - New Life for Rural Areas” it once again provided a meeting point and discussion forum for the Rural Tourism Entrepreneur, for public and private authorities, and for any other professional involved in rural tourism. The one-day Plenary Session on 8-October dealt with:

* The importance of tourism for rural areas - past and future
* Innovative concepts and products in Rural Tourism
* Keeping rural communities and heritage alive through tourism
* Rural Tourism in the world of internet and social media

complemented by country presentations from Russia, Moldova, Estonia, and Ireland.

The second day was organised around Thematic Products in Rural Tourism. Participants chosed amongst four different Thematic Field Trips that integrated a two-hour workshop with hands-on visits to relate resources in the Neamt province:

* Cultural heritage
* Natural resources
* Greenways
* Gastronomy

The days before the Congress (from 5 to 7-October), an optional 2-day Study Tour itinerary starting from Bucarest was made available. Additionally, participants arriving on Saturday or Sunday enjoyed a choice of half-day excursions and visits in the Neamţ County that were prepared during these days.

Program and speaker presentations are still available at the congress website. The full list of presentations will also soon be available for download there.
